Epizo Bangoura

               

Sounds Alive! Brought Epizo Bangoura to the Northern Beaches where he held workshops with children.

Abdoulaye Epizo Bangoura is a drummer of extraordinary skill and talent. He plays the djembe, balaphon and kora as well as most other instruments he picks up. He is born into a Griot family, and trained under the master drummers of Guinea, he is renowned worldwide.
Bangoura moved to Australia in 1995 and formed the group African Express. He taught both drumming and dancing in Sydney and founded the Jareta drum and Dance School in New York. He currently lives in France.
Bangoura has played with many contemporary musicians such as Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand), Don Pullen, Ed Blackwell and Mark Helias.
