Ngurra Camp

Conception and Staging, Artistic Director, Artist Liaison and
Master of Ceremonies for Manly Council .

The philosophy of the concept was to create a meeting place
of cultural exchange held in the spirit of reconciliation
and this was accepted by the 2003 Guringai Festival Committee
and Manly Council.

The Chairperson of the 2003 Guringai Festival, Susan Moylan-Coombs
said of the 2003 Guringai festival:

“This year the Guringai Festival theme is ‘Honouring the Ancestors’
who still walk with us today.”
“By acknowledging the past and those who have gone before us,
hopefully together we can make better decisions about our future”.
Ngurra Camp was a complete day of celebrations, involving artist workshops
and stall displays where art was available for purchase,
a cultural discussion about the history of the Guringai People,
a forum discussion by elders on the topic ‘Honouring the Ancestors’,
dance performance, singers & musicians,
information stalls and a food stall.
