of the Darug - Blacktown’s first people.

WALKING
IN COUNTRY


An intimate and enlightening multi-media performance.
Blacktown City Council invites you to join Karen Smith –
a Darug woman from the Boorooberongal and
Wianamattagal clans of Western Sydney – for a Walk In Country.
Backed by percussion, guitar and images, Karen shares yarns
about Maria Lock, Yarramundie, Gomebeeree, Colebee and the
Sydney Darug Clans.

The performance of Walking in Country, at Blacktown Arts Centre,
will follow a Curators Talk by Leanne Tobin and Karen Maber of
the Echoes of Blacktown exhibition at the Blacktown Visitors
Information and Heritage Centre.

Viewers are welcome to one or both events.

Blacktown City Council continues to recognise the significant
contribution of the Darug to our community and actively engage
the development and showcasing of local Aboriginal heritage,
art and culture. In this spirit Walking in Country builds on the work
already presented in the exhibition Echoes of Blacktown.
